iRidium for Velbus
a set of tools to create control interfaces for equipment in the Velbus bus.
The documentation was updated on 17.10.2022
Description
iRidium for Velbus is a set of tools for creating interfaces to control homes or offices on the basis of Velbus equipment.
iRidium for Velbus allows a control panel (iOS, Android, Windows, Mac) to connect to the Velbus bus.
Connection
Ways to connect to Velbus
Connection between iRidium server software and Velbus system is done via USB interface or RS-232. That's why use Usb-to-Lan or RS 232-to-Lan adapter for iRidium to detect devices connected to the bus via UDP/TCP scanning(contact Velbus for more information).
You can connect to Velbus device in advance with the help of VelbusLink software by the manufacturer. The software allows to track the state of controllers and see (change) work parameters that can be used when working with a project and testing it in iRidium Studio.
After connecting to the controller the address of the device and channels with data are displayed.
Functions of VelbusLink include an option - to change a device address. Click right mouse button on s device and select "Change Address" or press "F3" and enter the address required for your proejct in the menu that appears.
For more convenient work you can rename devices, it has no effect on the work of iRidium project, as https://dev.iridiummobile.net works with an address.
Changing connection settings
You need the possibility to change connection properties when you disconnect from the Wi-Fi network of the automation object and start using 3G or another Wi-Fi network. To maintain control of the object you need to switch from the local to public IP-address of the Internet router.
The switch is not automatic. You have to select the connection mode. For remote acces you have to make ports for controlling the automation system public. In order to do that you have o set up the Port Forwarding service on your Internet router. VPN can provide protected connection.
1 Download the template (*.js) (right-click button: "Save object as ..."), add the template in the script editor with the button
(+) Add Script from file
2 Set up script properties as it is shown in the example:
- function Internal_1() {
- IR.GetDevice('Velbus').SetParameters({Host: "192.168.0.85", Port: 27015});
- }
- function External_1() {
- IR.GetDevice('Velbus').SetParameters({Host: "215.110.10.10", Port: 5001});
- }
Copy the driver name from Projeсt Device Panel - the list of properties has to be copied from the example.
3 Select the button which will be responsible for the switch of Internal and External properties. Open Macros Editor for the Press event (Object Properties > Programming), select the Script Call command and add it by double-clicking on it. Select the name of the function which will be activated by the button:
Now each pressing on the button will apply the corresponding connection properties.
After this setting, you can start creating your project in iRidium server.
Work in iRidium studio
Create a project and select "Scanner/Import" in the catalogue of drivers. Scanning is done only in a local network.
ScanVelbus scans the net via UDP. After scanning all modules available for setting in Velbus net appear. Select the required ones from the list.
ScanVelbusTCP - connection with a selected setting module via IP and a port.
After scanning a list of devices ready for work appears. Select required ones.
Properties of Velbus driver
1. Settings of a control bus:
- Log level - level of logging;
- Host - IP-address of Velbus controller;
- Port - main port (27015). System data, IR commands, data from sensors and relay commands go via it;
- Login - login for protected access (non-obligatory parameter);
- Password - password for protected access (non-obligatory parameter);
- Wait for connection - (ms) time to wait for connection with Velbus (otherwise another connection attempt is made);
- Wait for data - (ms) time to wait for responce from equipment (otherwise another request is made and connection is checked). Enter 0, if you do not want a driver to disconnect from equipment when there is no data exchange;
- SSL - type of connection encryption. The standard state is Disable. Velbus devices support all available versions of encrytping.
2. System tokens of the driver
3. Connected devices have the following parametes:
- Name - name of device;
- Driver Type - type of driver;
- Address - device address in the bus;
- Device Type - type of device (releay, meteo sensor, etc.).
Types of devices
The list includes devices, available on Velbus official web-site supported by iRidium.
A list of device commands can be changed after scanning or adding manually to a project.

Setting Commands and Feedback Channels
Recommended ways to conrol devices in the Velbus bus are ennumerated after describing operation codes. An operation code supports sending values within a definite range that had to be kept when setting graphic items. Some operation codes support only getting feedback without sending commands. Ways to display feedback are also given after each operation code.
To assign a command, a command must be drag'n'dropped on a graphic item and a Value to send must be entered. To display feedback, a feedback channel must be drag'n'dropped on a graphic item and select a way to display Value.
Read more about work with graphic items in the
"Types of graphic items" article.
