Basics of work with i3 KNX
KNX Home Server is a sofware-hardware complex developed to control KNX bus, setting is done with the help of i3 KNX app.
The documentation was updated on 22.7.2026
Attention: the i3 KNX app doesn't support connection via ipv6.
Installation
Apple iOS
Authorize on the AppStore using the Apple ID with which the application will work.
Installation from the "App Store" on iPad, iPhone, iPod touch:
Log in to your iTunes account (store) on your iOS device. Type "i3 KNX" in the search box and install the app.
From 04/25/2023, the i3 KNX app will be available in the App Store only from iOS version 11 and above.
For devices with iOS 14 and later, it's required to allow the app to access the local network in the following section Settings-> i3 KNX->Local network.
Allow access to all major functions of a device in the app settings (geolocation, microphone, camera, etc.) for i3 KNX to work correctly.
Access limitation (Guided Access)
Guided Access is «a mode of restricted use» of Apple iOS, a standard iOS option beginning with iOS 6.
The guided access allows you to lock the Home button so you could not leave the application. It also allows you to leave only a part of the screen active by limiting work with its areas. Setting up and removing of the guided access is performed using the code password. The lock screen and "sleep" remain active.
Setting:
Settings > General > Universal access > Guided access
The mode is useful when using iPad, iPhone, iPod touch as a panel in a shop, hotel, on a demo stand, in a show-room, at an expo, etc.
Google Android
The application is available for installation from Google Play or the iRidi web site:
- Installation from Google Play
Open Google Play on your Android device, find the i3 KNX app via Search and install it.
- Installation from iridi.com
If Google Play does not allow to install app ("The application is not supported by this device"):
- Open the settings of your Android device.
- Enable installation of third-party applications, the "Unknown sources" item. Usually this item is in the "Security > Device administration" section. But depending on the Android version it can be in another section, for example, "Applications".
- Download the i3 KNX app .apk file from the iRidi website via the browser of your Android device.
- Start installation of the application through the menu "Downloads" or from a file manager (for example, "File Expert").
You can also download and install the .apk application file on your PC and then download to the memory card of your Android device to install it using a file manager.
Allow access to all major functions of a device in the app settings (geolocation, microphone, camera, etc.) for i3 KNX to work correctly.
Access limitation (Kiosk-mode)

Project Creation
A project is a configuration for KNX Home Server and i3 KNX app that allows the app to interact with the server and the server to connect to controlled equipment.
After authorization in the KNX Home Server, a window with projects appears. Click New Project to create a new project.
Activation of Server
When you activate a server, you assign it to your account. After activating the server pass on to configuring the server in i3 KNX app. A key for the server can be used to activate only this particular server. It can't be used to activate another server.
1 Select the server in the list of available ones (the server must be connected to the same IP-network as the control panel, activation via internet is impossible).
2 Scan a QR-code with a license key (it is located on the side of a server) with the help of a camera or enter it manually.
Creating New Project
1 Enter the name of a new project in the Project name field.
2 Select a way to connect to the bus in the KNX interface field.
- KNX TP - direct connection to the bus;
- KNX IP interface/router(KNXnet/ip) - when working with the bus remotely.
3 Enter connection parameters. Press Create project.
- IP address - IP-address of the server.
- Port - connection port.
- NAT - turn on NAT when working via the internat of with another IP-network.
4 Choose a type of connection to the server:
- Local only - only local connection;
- External only - only external connection;
- Local and External - local and external connection.
You can read more about modes of Server work here
Settings can be changed in project properties.
Project Setting
After a project is created, a menu for fast setting is opened, where a project can be configured step by step (these steps can be skipped and a project can be set later).
Step 1

Fixing problems
Here you can find information on solving problems that appear in the process of using equipment.
Often closure of the app
When working with the Intel HD Graphics processor, update the driver to the latest stable version before installing i3 KNX.
No Connection to the Server
- Check that the server is available from the current device with the help of Ping command from the command line. If there is no ping, check the work of the network.
- If an error appears during actiation, check that the server has internet access.
- If there is no connection to the server after turning on remote control, check that more than 2-3 minutes passed after turning on and downloading a project. The server requires time to connect to the cloud for the first time.
- If a message appeared “Server is unavailable”, check the power and the network cables.
Server is Unavailable in the Network for a Long Time
If the server is unavailable in the network for a long time, but the diode indicators on the body and of the network interface show that the server is active, reset that server to default settings.
1 Turn off the controller and press the Prog button.
2 Hold the Prog button and supply power to the controller.
3 Hold the Prog button till the diode changes its color from red to green and to blue three times.
4 After it the controller has default settings: automatic getting the IP address is activated (DHCP).
If it is required, repeat the procedure several times.
No Connection to KNX Bus
When there is a failure in connection to KNX bus, there appears and information message: "No connection to KNX bus. Click here".
To solve the problem, do the following:
- Check physical connection to KNX bus (power, connection, etc.);
- Check connection settings to KNX bus - enter the Config then Devices and (connection method, Host, Port, NAT).
After making changees, start the project and make the changes public on the server by pressing corresponding buttons. Check that the number of semultaneous connections via KNX IP is not exceeded.
